Last Kind Standing
"Guys, please. Can we just go ONE day without you breaking my stuff?!"

Madouk is a brilliant, no-nonsense inventor, once shackled under the rigid social rules of her species. She now thrives in her self-built bunker on the deserted planet Ataraxia, surrounded by her beloved swarm of Insectroid robots. In exchange for food and shelter, she sends Hiro and Avio on scrap-gathering missions - accompanied by her magnum opus gone awry, Medusoid, who Madouk has basically assigned as the babysitter of said scrap-gatherers.

She’s blunt, short-fused, and independent, with a mind wired to create, and more sentimental of her creations and friends than she lets on. Madouk won’t ever say she’s grown attached to her chaotic scrap-scavengers, Hiro and Avio... but she hasn’t kicked them out yet, either.

Personality

Madouk's creativity knows no bounds, fueled by pure ambition and her love for robotics. She thrives on challenge, and quickly becomes bored without something to keep her mind busy. Though she lives alone on a remote planet, she’s anything but a recluse... She'd honestly just rather have her insectroids do the heavy lifting for her, most of the time.

Underneath her exterior is a loving softness she rarely shows. She doesn’t trust easily, but when she does, she’ll fight for you with everything she’s got - especially if you’ve earned her respect. Being vulnerable still makes her nervous though, so she'll typically cover it with sarcasm, snark, or a well-aimed object throw.

Her humor is dry and sarcastic, and mostly only surfaces when she's comfortable enough. She’s not immune to a bit of adventure or mischief, despite her typical nature, though she'll definitely still be rolling her eyes at the team's mistakes.

Appearance

Madouk is chubbier than the average Dynamunculus - though it's not like she minds. She doesn’t exercise much, and why would she? Dynamunculi aren’t exactly built for agility.

As for Dynamunculi in general, they’re short and long, with compact bodies supported by four thick limbs, each ending in four soft keratin-coated fingers, complete with opposable thumbs. Their heads are crowned with a horn, which determines social rank in their modern society. On their heads and tail tips, they have long, noodle-like tentacles that secrete a sticky oil at the base, used for climbing and feeding their young. Bioluminescent eyes and frill accents are their most notable feature for sure, glowing brightest when they inhale.

Backstory

Madouk’s younger years were steeped in tradition - a rigid structure where her role was dictated by a zodiac-like religion, one that had Madouk looked down upon for her horn shape and size. Her family viewed her dreams as impossible, dismissing her wishes of invention as unsuitable for someone of her "rank". She was expected to conform, to settle into something safer, more "acceptable"... but conforming was not an option Madouk would even consider.

These constraints only fueled her defiance, and so, refusing to waste her potential, Madouk abandoned her home, setting off with nothing but her ideas and determination. She became a wandering inventor, traveling between planets, salvaging scrap, and designing in secrecy. It was difficult - constantly moving, constantly adapting - but it was far better than anything that Dynamunculan society wouldve chosen for her.

Over time, she built a small army of insectroids; her own line of bug-like robots, designed and sustained by Madouk, and loyal only to her. They became her gatherers, her protectors, and her key to further freedom, aiding her in collecting materials that others overlooked. Piece by piece, she scraped up enough components to bring her grandest plan to life - an underground sanctuary of her own creation.

Oditomaia-4C was a planet of extremes; dry, hot, and bare, with not a single resource that was of interest to anyone... But that made it perfect. It was untouched, undisputed, free from the grasp of anyone to control her. With her insectroids, she claimed this planet as her own, giving it the name "Ataraxia", and carving out her very own labyrinth - a haven where she could work without interference, surrounded only by the hum of machinery and the quiet comfort of solitude.

Trivia

  • She's strangely good at throwing things, and for the most part it's actually on accident... though she doesn't admit that, and instead pretends that she's just that good.
  • She's very easily startled, though if you try anything you'll swiftly be stopped one way or another. Most likely by having something thrown at you.
    • Cue montage of her getting startled and accidentally flinging stuff in some random direction...
  • She has a habit of muttering to herself when she's focused or zoning out, and easily forgets that others can hear her.
  • She's very, very attached to her Insectroids, and unadmittedly gets really sad if one breaks or starts having software issues.
